Digital Printers
For You to Consider for You Self Publishing Needs

These are large digital printers (sometimes called print-on-demand). They are suggested only for those who want to truly self-publish. If this is your first effort at self-publishing  —remember that is different from subsidy-publishing when you have someone else help you publish your book under their ISBN number—I recommend you use a book shepherd like Joyce Faulkner at katieseyes@aol.com.

By the way, I love CreateSpace.com for those who are savvy enough to publish completely on their own. Don't be fooled by the services they offer. You publish free on this site except for the services you contract out. I have never used their marketing or publishing services. So you're on your own researching those. I have used their free cover templates which are still a bit tricky, but generally satisfying enough, especially for promotional books.

BookBaby, www.Bookbaby.com . I partnered with Bookbaby when they shared my Frugal Book Promoter with their readers and future customers and I found them reputable and easy to work with.

Unsolicited Endorsement:

Dear Carolyn,
Since learning about your fantastic marketing Web sites and books, I've not only recommended them to others, but also am drawing heavily upon your marketing expertise for Port Yonder Press, a newer indie press from Iowa that I'm working with. Bless you and your marvelous wisdom, especially for all of us who must market largely on our own.

~ Lisa Lickel,  Editor,  Creative Wisconsin Magazine, and Port Yonder Press

Tips

Notice the title on this page. Digital printing is not just for your books. You may want to print booklets to help you promote. In fact, that's an ideal starter project for learning the ropes of true do-it-yourself printing.

PS: Sometimes the word self-publishing is used incorrectly when people mean partner- or subsidy-publishing.

Find at least one tip on writing, promotion or tech on every page of this Web site.

I share articles with other authors and Web sites at no charge as part of my marketing effort. Learn how to get free articles and book excerpts for your project on subjects from tolerance to how-to articles for writers. Ditto for seasonal poetry to spice up your holiday pages and rants to just add spice any old time.

Don't forget to check out my list of books for writers on this site and in the appendixes of The Frugal Book Promoter and The Frugal Editor.

Authors are retailers, too, by virtue of the fact that they sell books.  The more authors know about retailing, the easier it is to partner with retail stores on workshops, book signings, seminars and other events.

"I have been a professional writer 40 years, and am also a tenured full professor of journalism. Carolyn's Sharing with Writers newsletter is  most useful for me--and for my students. I emphasize to them that while research is 90% of writing, and the actual writing is about 10%, there's another 100% out there called promotion. Carolyn shows numerous ways to get the message to the mass media."
